After Elon Musk drastically cut 50% of Twitter's staff in November, Meta and Amazon’s layoffs also hit one after another. Layoffs in November were estimated to be as high as 46,000 in the technology industry. These layoffs, coupled with the impact of the epidemic, are causing North American job seekers to struggle.
Amidst the cooling job market, IntelliPro & Uoffer held a Silicon Valley summit in Santa Clara, which aimed to help those affected by the layoffs, and new graduates to find jobs or make career plans for the future.
This has been the largest offline job fair held in the Silicon Valley since the pandemic. Participation from American to Chinese companies included Meta, Amazon, Coinbase, Tencent, Meituan, Kuaishou, TCL, Thoughtworks, PingCAP, RERam, Bluesky, StarRocks and several other IT companies. Together we are determined to help students and professionals overcome difficulties that are ongoing in the current job market.
The Silicon Valley Elite Summit attracted over 300 outstanding students and young talents from well-known companies such as Google and Apple, as well as from top universities such as Stanford and UCB to participate in the 4-hour-long summit. Industry leaders, such as the CEOs or founders of Bluesky, CelerData, PingCAP, Coinbase, Meta, and Amazon shared valuable workplace experience and expressed their own unique views on the current environment.
This summit facilitated a warm atmosphere as industry leaders, young professionals and students shared each others experiences and concerns.
As for a quick recap!
In anticipation of the summit, many people arrived at the venue in advance. The booths were bustling with job seekers.
During the exchange meeting, the founder of IntelliPro and Uoffer, Yisu Jin, shared his job-hunting strategy and mentality regarding the recent layoff trends, and how he went from a software engineer to a Silicon Valley CEO.
Additionally, Jin shared how international students can efficiently find IT jobs in Silicon Valley, such as how to respond, make sufficient preparations and finally successfully get their dream offer.
“To find an ideal job, in addition to a positive attitude, you also need to ensure that your comprehensive strength can match the market demand. Prove to the interviewer that the team needs talents like you, and then step by step win this job-hunting battle."
Co-Founder & CEO, Mingsheng Hong from Bluesky also expressed his own unique views, which is that we can look at the instability of the job market in North America from different angles.
Crisis often breeds new opportunities. Many well-known large companies, such as Uber, WhatsApp, and Airbnb, were born in crisis. "The only way to achieve the impossible is to believe that it is possible."
CelerData & StarRocks COO, Qian Ye, believes that to achieve success in the workplace, you need to have two necessary conditions: you must be in a rising industry and be a patient employee. In our daily work, we must always pay attention to industry trends and form our own judgments. Ye also emphasized that a career is a long-distance running track, what we need is step-wise growth, and not be discouraged by the storm of layoffs, stay proactive and seek more opportunities.
Siwei Shen, Senior Director of Engineering from Coinbase, also shared his perspectives.
During the interactive sharing meeting, students actively participated and voiced their concerns with the current market. Yisu shared: "The darkest moment will eventually pass, I hope we can tide over the difficulties together and welcome the transformation!"
